An Iberian lynx travels more than 150 kilometers from Extremadura and arrives at the gates of Córdoba

The cat, which killed twelve chickens, has been captured by the Environment and is in the CREA in Los Villares

It came from Extremadura. The Iberian lynx that appeared last week in the the Blanquillo farm, situated next to the A-4, the old Andalusia highwayless than 10 kilometers from Córdoba capital, in full Countryside, has been caught by the staff of Environment of the Board and is currently in the Threatened Species Recovery Center (CREA) of Los Villares, according to what sources from the regional administration have informed this newspaper.

Sources from the Board have specified that the animal will remain in quarantine at CREA for two weeks “for its exploration and monitoring & rdquor ;. As Environment has been able to verify, the lynx has a microchipbut no geolocator. Is called SoldierHe is two years old and comes from Estremadura, the exact location is unknown but it is known that was born in the Matachel Valley, in the province of Badajoz, near towns such as Llerena or Azuaga. From this point it has had to travel, at least, about 150 kilometers to get to Cordoba.

Until now, no further information has been released, nor is there knowledge of how it could have reached the place.

The lynx slipped into a farm and was recorded

This feline entered the aforementioned farm last Thursday, located 15 minutes from the Cordovan capital, where killed twelve chickensbelonging to the farmer Alfonso Ruiz Mengualwho denounced the event before the Delegation of the Environment of the Junta de Andalucía.

Apparently, the specimen appeared on the plot due to the abundant rabbit population in the area, which was also dangerous due to its proximity to the highway.

Two chickens as bait

Since Thursday, the Environment workers have established a capture device with cameras on the farm and with the bait of two chickens. The operation has paid off and this Wednesday the endangered animal has been captured in a cage. As reported, the goal is return it to its natural habitat.
