An expert guides you – This is how you overcome the common make-up challenge of Finns

An expert gives tips for beautiful eyebrows.

Makeup artist Mariel Hynynen names eyebrows as one common problem that many Finns struggle with.

– They say that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. So the corners are the frames. Eyebrows give character and definition to the face. The shape and color of the eyebrows also has a big impact on what kind of first impression others might make of us, says Hynynen.

The right tone

– Often really cold corners suit ash-based hair. For some, it becomes a harder look. Instead, a slightly warmer color in the corners gives a softer look and a more natural, so-called Elovena look, he continues.

– I recommend choosing the shade of your own root growth close to the color of the brows. The tone can then be fine-tuned to either a colder or warmer direction, he instructs.

Eyebrow pattern

It has a significant effect on how bushy your own eyebrows are and how curved your own model is. These have a big impact on how the corners define and frame the face.

– For high foreheads, straight and slightly thicker corners are perfect. In this case, the forehead does not visually look so high. For example, this look is used a lot in Asia, Hynynen opens.

– Instead, a steeper angle in the eyebrow model raises the forehead. Such a one is suitable for faces where there is only a little space between the forehead and the eyebrows, he continues.

– For an adult woman, you can get a little lift and youthfulness in the corner of the eye with the same flick.

Prevailing eyebrow trends

Hynynen says that right angles are currently in fashion in eyebrows, i.e. a slightly thinner, narrow model. However, this does not mean the overcut corners of the 90s.

– Now we are slowly giving up on the so-called generous butt corners, which have been seen a lot in recent years.

Hynynen mentions bleached and concealed make-up corners as another big trend. These have already been seen on supermodel Kendall Jenner and an American model Amelia Gray at Hamlin as well as in the shows of several fashion houses.

According to Hynynen, the brow lift look is getting old, but she still recommends keeping colorless eyebrow gels in your make-up bag.

– Transparent eyebrow gels give the brows a natural and breathable finish. This way, the eyebrows don’t look glued to the skin.

Are international eyebrow trends visible in Finland?

– In Finland, you can already see some of these trends. Young people in particular follow Tiktok trends, so the bravest clearly already prefer this yäri look.

Older women have preferred the naturally filled, most classic corners.

– Young people are often pioneers and so-called importers of trends, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this thinned-out angle is soon seen in Finland as well among people of all ages, Hynynen thinks.

Try these:

Xbrow Eyebrow Conditioner eyebrow serum

Eyebrow serums should be used if you want to stimulate the growth of your own eyebrows. This product seemed to strengthen the brows: abundance and hair thickness and length increased during the test period. With a handy brush, the product could be brushed into place even in a hurry, which means you won’t forget to use it: no matter how tired you are in the evenings. Rating: 9.5/10. 45 e, Xlash.

Madara Grow & Fix tinting and conditioning brow gel

The new multifunctional product of the Latvian natural cosmetics brand Madara that treats, tones and at the same time subtly helps to grow eyebrows. Also suitable for the laziest tester. The compact-sized brow gel is available in three different shades and colorless. The conveniently sized mini brush is not clumsy but just the right size and the product’s composition remained good in the tight tube. If you only get one corner product: let it be this one. Rating: 8.5/10. 30.50 e, Madara.

NYX The Brow Glue colored eyebrow gel

The absolute easiest way to conjure up depth in your eyes and make your eyebrows stand out is to resort to a colored eyebrow gel. The end result stayed beautiful all day and the corners didn’t feel particularly sticky. A suitable natural shade for, for example, blondes or those with graying eyebrows. It was also tested during a sweaty workout and it held up well despite the sweat drops. Plus, the products are vegan and have a very functional, bushy mini brush. Rating: 8;5/10. 13.90 e, Sokos.

IsaDora Brow Shaping Gel colorless eyebrow gel

The Swedish brand’s colorless eyebrow gel became the new favorite in the tester’s make-up bag. The fast-drying product shapes beautifully and naturally. The tester’s own brows are relatively long, dark and bushy, so the biggest challenge is getting them to stay in place as desired – not so much the lack of color or bushiness. The tester also liked the small enough brush, with which each hair can be easily placed in the desired position. Also suitable for sensitive skin, as the product is fragrance-free. Rating: 9.5/10. 14.50 e, Eleven.

Lumene Longwear Eyebrow Definer pencil

In the domestic Lumene’s selection, you can find a wide variety of products specifically suitable for Finns’ typically fair and sparse eyebrows. The tester fell in love with this beautiful, matte shade that could be used to make up Foggy and soft corners. The handy angled brush on the other end applies and blends the product into place easily and quickly. This product is not suitable for lovers of the most precise result, because the tip of the automatic pencil cannot be sharpened, unlike a traditional pencil. Not the most versatile product either, i.e. best suited for people who apply their brows occasionally. Vegan composition. Rating 8/10. 11.45 e, It’s snowing.

Lavera Eyebrow Pencil

A vegan, slightly creamy brow pencil that is perfect for more brows. If you want a more precise end result and draw individual hairs more precisely, you can do it with a sharpened pencil tip. Instead, for those who like a softer look, the blunter tip of the same product works. The product of the German natural cosmetics brand contains, among other things, organic jojoba oil and organic herbs. The downside is that there isn’t an eyebrow brush at the other end of the pen, which would be convenient to blend the product into place. Available in two different shades: for blondes and brunettes. The tester liked the easy and sufficient product. The inexpensive product has an excellent price-quality ratio. Rating: 8/10. €6.95, Prism.

BeautyAct Shape & Lift Brow Wax

In the tester’s opinion, the most effective of all the brow waxes tested. The wax sets the eyebrows in the desired shape and keeps them there all day. The product does not leave a sticky feeling in the corners and the wax does not show outwards. Stay in standard use! Rating: 9.5/10. 17.90 e, Kicks.

Browgame Cosmetics Instant Brow Lift eyebrow wax

The product is really sufficient. The fact that it comes with a brush that is shaped according to the jar and eyebrows is definitely a plus. Wax is moody and you should be careful not to get too much. The eyebrows stay in the desired position all day, but the wax easily remains in visible clumps in the corners. It is a little more challenging to clean the corners, i.e. an investment in careful skin cleaning. Rating: 7.5/10. 19.90 e, Lyco.
