An 8-year-old girl won the grandmaster

The girl from London discovered the sport three years ago.

Only 8 years old Bodhana Sivananda did a great job trick at the rapid chess tournament in Zagreb, Croatia last weekend.

The schoolgirl was crowned the tournament’s best player in the women’s division. Bodhana was ranked 73rd among a total of 555 participants, which included many experienced players who achieved international success.

The scalps were tough. Among other things, Bodhana hit the coach of the English national team Lorin D’Costa39, and holding the title of two-time Romanian champion and grandmaster Vladislav Nevednichyn54.

“Disturbingly mature”

The chairman of the English Chess Federation, who commented on the achievement to the Times magazine by Dominic Lawson according to Bodhana’s performance is completely exceptional, but still not surprising, because the girl from northwest London is a “phenomenon” in her field.

Quick chess differs from traditional chess, as the games in its various sports last a maximum of ten minutes.

– He has a confusingly mature playing style that is strategic and patient. It could be described as a long game, Lawson estimates.

The player’s father Sivananda’s Velayutham says Bodhana became interested in chess by chance at the age of five during the corona lockdowns.

– He was curious and interested, so I started to take him to the English Chess Federation and other people who play chess in England. They have been really friendly and helpful, the man thanks.

Chess legend Garry Kasparov visited the rapid chess competitions held in Zagreb in July. PDO
