Amy Schumer calls for Selenskyj to join the Oscars

Amy Schumer, who is one of the presenters of this year’s Oscars, wants Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to join the awards ceremony. She has now submitted this proposal to the Oscar committee.

“To run an entertainment show in times of crisis like this is a fine line,” she said on The Drew Barrymore Show. That’s why she suggested letting the Ukrainian President take part in the ceremony virtually.

“I suggested that the President of Ukraine be tuned in by satellite or in a recording because there are just so many people watching the Oscars,” Schumer said on the show. But it’s not up to her to decide. She’s not afraid of it, but she doesn’t produce the Oscars herself.

The 40-year-old did not reveal whether her proposal was accepted. But there is probably a lot of pressure from outside and you don’t want to give the impression that you want to offer a break from reality.

However, the feedback from viewers is rather mixed. Some users accuse Schumer of living in a bubble. Zelenskyy has a country to save and certainly no time for award ceremonies.

But other users agreed: “I think we need to stop mocking and underestimating this type of platform. We should be able to do anything to send a message to Russia or raise awareness about this war. I’ll definitely watch the Oscars when Selenskyj is there and makes a mark. Let’s do whatever it takes to stop this absurdity!”

Amy Schumer will host the 94th Academy Awards on March 27 alongside Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall.
