Amsterdam Pirates trailing in Holland Series due to third defeat in a row

The baseball players of Amsterdam Pirates did a poor job tonight in the battle for the national title. In the fifth game of the Holland Series, visiting Neptunus lost 2-1 in Rotterdam. With two games left in the best-of-seven series, Neptunus now leads 3-2.

Neptunus’ winning run did not reach the scoreboard until the tying ninth at bat. A striking single by Tony Krueger allowed John Polonius to cross home plate from third base on behalf of the Rotterdam-squad.

Pirates had taken a 1-0 lead from the first inning thanks to a run by Roelie Henrique. It wasn’t until the seventh at bat that Neptunus came alongside. It was striking that Pim Vijfvinkel pitched the entire game for Amsterdam.

The decision will be made this weekend

The defeat is the third in a row for Amsterdam and Neptunus has turned a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 lead. The decision can be made on Saturday in Amsterdam if Neptunus manages to win again. If Pirates wins, the all-deciding seventh game will take place in Rotterdam on Sunday.
