The city cleaners had their hands full this morning with the enormous mess on the street in front of club De School in Amsterdam-West. After eight years, De School is leaving the old LTS building. Last weekend visitors queued for hours to enjoy the final closing weekend. And even this morning people were still saying goodbye. “I’m going to miss the people, the gathering and the atmosphere,” one of the last visitors told AT5 this morning.
Visitors waited in line for hours with coffee, croissants, cigarettes and prosecco, among other things, to get in last weekend. After eight years, the curtain falls for club De School, successor to the well-known ‘Club 11’ and ‘Trouw’.
Many visitors shed a tear here and there this weekend. “I’ve met so many people here, I think I’ll shed a tear soon,” a visitor told AT5 at the time. Another: “I also had my last shift and I thought: ‘Wow, I’m never going to stand behind this bar again’, that’s really crazy.”
In addition to shared memories, many visitors indicated that they would miss the unique club. “It’s almost indescribable, it’s kind of like Berlin here.” Another says: “I remember the first time I went here on a Sunday. I went with a group that I didn’t know very well, but now they are my best friends and then I met my boyfriend.”
Yet not everyone thinks that way. An employee of the city cleaning service says while cleaning up: “Glad that it was the last time, it’s a ball every Saturday! I’ve never been inside myself and I don’t want to, because it’s not my music either: that boom , boom Boom.”
On the other hand, a visitor who is present during the last hours today will really miss it. “I was there once on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” she says. “It will certainly be emotional, the last sets are also from friends who are also artists. There are also many groups of friends on the dance floor, it is very nice to do this together.”
