For the Amsterdam hockey fans it was a choice on Sunday. The women’s match started almost simultaneously with those of Ajax and Feyenoord. “I enjoy Ajax’s defeat. I love Mislintat (technical director Ajax ed.). He is messing up,” said a joking voice at the Wagener Stadium.
The hockey club had specially installed a large screen in front of the clubhouse so that some hockey players could watch the football. About a hundred people watched the football there.
On the other side of the complex, the women upheld Amsterdam’s honor by beating Rotterdam 9-0. “I enjoyed the team,” said coach Teun de Nooijer afterwards.
Earlier in the day, the Amsterdam men lost 4-2 to Rotterdam. “We could have achieved a result here. It’s a real shame,” said player Valentin Verga.
Taco van den Honert returned as coach for the men this season. He helped the Amsterdam team win the last championship in 2012. “We are a team under construction and we have to be patient for one or two years,” Van den Honert tempered expectations for next season.
Watch Ajax?
The men had just finished their match and could therefore choose. Watching the women’s match or Ajax-Feyenoord? “Of course I’m going to watch Ajax,” said Verga. “I’m going to look at both and walk back and forth a bit,” said Van den Honert.
