Amsterdam helmswoman achieves unique silver medal at European Championship with eight men

A failed start for the Dutch men’s eight at the European Championships in Munich and then still take the silver. That can certainly be called surprising. And that was partly thanks to mate Dieuwke Fetter from Amsterdam.

In no time the Netherlands was in fifth place and the distance to the rest was more than thirty meters. The race was over 2000 meters and the Orange started a spectacular chase. Just before the finish line, Dieuwke Fetter and her eight men passed Italy and so they conquered the silver medal.

In addition to helmsman Fetter, the eight men consist of: Abe Wiersma, Niki van Sprang, Lennart van Lierop, Guillaume Krommenhoek, Michiel Mantel, Jacob van de Kerkhof, Mick Makker and Guus Mollee.

Great Britain won the race convincingly.
