Amsterdam designates the Arena, Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein area as a safety risk area

In connection with the championship match that Ajax will play at home against Heerenveen tonight, the municipality of Amsterdam has decided to designate a number of locations in the city as a safety risk area. This means that people in those areas can be searched preventively.

It concerns the area around the Johan Cruijff Arena, Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein. The clue begins this afternoon at 2:00 PM and continues until 2:00 AM.

“Given the experience of many years and recent information, the triangle considers the chance very real that groups of supporters will go to the city center and the Arena area, where there is a risk of public order disturbances,” the municipality said in a statement.

The municipality also states that the police is prepared for various situations.
