Amsterdam court will deal with the suspected murder of toddler Dean on Tuesday | News

Dave De Kock will appear on Tuesday before the International Legal Aid Chamber in Amsterdam, which will decide on his surrender to Belgium. De Kock is suspected of the kidnapping and death of Dean Verberckmoes (4). The verdict is normally two weeks later and there is no appeal against the decision.

The investigating judge in Dendermonde asks the 34-year-old suspect for the murder and kidnapping of the toddler to surrender. Dean’s body was found in the Netherlands near Neeltje Jans in Zeeland, and De Kock was arrested in Meerkerk in the province of Utrecht. Dean was kidnapped in Belgium, but it is not yet certain where he died.

De Kock appeared on January 20 before the public prosecutor in Amsterdam, who placed him in extradition detention. This started the surrender procedure. In the Netherlands, all requests for surrender from a country in the European Union must be handled by the Amsterdam public prosecutor’s office and the Amsterdam court. The chamber of the Amsterdam court ruled on January 28 that De Kock remains in extradition detention.

Resists

Dave De Kock opposes the surrender, which means that the International Legal Aid Chamber of the Amsterdam District Court has to decide on the surrender. His Dutch lawyer Michael Yap will not comment, but he previously stated that his client is resisting because there must first be clarity about the Dutch part of the investigation. The International Court of Justice only judges on the surrender and not on the facts themselves. No appeal is possible against the decision. If the surrender is allowed, it must be carried out within ten working days.
