A 22-year-old Amstelveen man suspected of trafficking in hard drugs was arrested by the police in Purmerend last Friday. Officers tracked down the man through reports from Purmerend residents about drug nuisance.
The drug nuisance had been on the minds of Purmerend for some time. A police spokesperson emphasizes that reports from citizens are crucial for tackling drug trafficking. “If we don’t see and hear it, it will be very difficult for us.”
Following the reports made by Purmerend residents, a police action was launched. During the arrest of the Amstelvener, drugs, money, an electric bicycle and several mobile phones were seized for the investigation.
Penalty payment
The municipality of Purmerend will also impose a penalty on the man. He must pay that money if he is guilty of drug trafficking again in the future. It is not yet known how high this amount of money will be.
