Amstelveen synagogue area cordoned off after incident, turns out to be a false alarm

The area around a synagogue on Max Havelaarlaan in Amstelveen was cordoned off tonight after the police received a report of an attempted burglary or vandalism. In the end it turned out to be a false alarm.

Those present had themselves called the police when they thought they had seen burglars entering the synagogue. The Marechaussee also came to the synagogue to cordon off the area. “Because it concerns a synagogue, we are conducting a thorough investigation,” said a police spokesman when the whole thing had just been dropped off against NH.

Visitors

A reporter at the scene saw that a police explosives scout was even present. In the end it turned out to be a false alarm. They were not burglars, but visitors to the synagogue who had entered the building, the police said. “Everyone is going home now.”
