Amstelveen Christmas trees remain on the streets even longer due to slippery conditions

Residents of various Amstelveen neighborhoods still have to avoid heaps of Christmas trees this week. Because the waste company has to spread salt due to slippery conditions, it is not possible to also collect the trees. The company announces this in the waste app. Amstelveen residents complained last week that their tree is not being collected.

This year the collection started earlier in Amstelveen than in most other municipalities, namely on January 2. Today it would be the turn of the last neighborhood and all the trees that were still there had to be collected.

There appear to be more than expected, because many trees that were placed at a collection point on time were also not collected. Dozens of spruce trees have been waiting to be picked up in Waardhuizen for almost two weeks.

“A week of fun has been taken away from us,” complains a resident of the neighborhood who said he had to take down his tree in a hurry.

Too few drivers

The waste company did not provide an explanation last week for the late collection of the Christmas trees, but it is warning Amstelveen residents today via a message in the waste app.

“We were supposed to start collecting those trees today. But because gritting also had to be done last night, we do not have enough drivers today,” the company writes.

It is not yet known when the Christmas trees will be collected.
