Amstel Gold Race extends collaboration with Valkenburg | 1Limburg

The Amstel Gold Race will also finish in Valkenburg for the next five years. This was announced on Tuesday afternoon during a press moment in the Gemeentegrot.

The contract between the cycling race and the municipality of Valkenburg has been extended until 2027.

twentieth time
The finish of the Gold Race has been in Valkenburg since 2003, first on top of the Cauberg, but since 2013 the finish line has been on the Rijksweg between Berg en Terblijt and Vilt. Next year it will be the twentieth time that the race finishes in Valkenburg. The municipality pays 130,000 euros annually to the organization, according to the new contract. Until now, that was 100,000 euros per year.

Maastricht has been the starting place of the classic since 1998, but that contract has not yet been extended. The municipality of Maastricht and the Amstel Gold Race are still discussing this.

Kwiatkowski
Earlier this month, the 56th edition of the Amstel Gold Race was won by Pole Michal Kwiatkowski. It was the second time he won the hill classic. He was millimeters ahead of Benoît Cosnefroy. The Frenchman was declared the winner first, but it was the Ineos Grenadiers rider who crossed the line earlier according to the photo finish.
