Amnesty: martial law in eastern Congo must silence dissent

The martial law that has been in place for more than a year in the two eastern Congolese provinces of North Kivu and Ituri is mainly intended to suppress dissent. The Amnesty International human rights organization concludes in a new report. In Kinshasa’s official speech, martial law has been declared in the fight against the numerous rebel groups in eastern Congo, but the reality is that the number of civilian casualties from armed groups has doubled in the past year.
