Amnesty is disappointed with outcry after report about Ukrainian army | Abroad

According to the report, Ukraine is violating humanitarian law by using non-military places such as residential areas, villages, residences, apartment buildings, hospitals and schools as shelters and locations from which the Russians are fired upon. “The fact that the country had to defend itself does not absolve the Ukrainian army from its obligation to respect international humanitarian law,” the report said.

“Amnesty’s priority in this conflict, and any other conflict, is to ensure the safety of civilians. This was our sole aim with our recent publication,” Amnesty said. “But let’s be clear, none of what we have recorded and written about the Ukrainian military makes good on the Russian violations.”
