On Saturday, two children were killed and a third injured near Kunduz when they were playing with an unexploded mortar shell. This is reported by the local police.

On Wednesday, 16 children were killed in attacks in Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif, UNICEF said. Minibuses and visitors to a mosque were the target.

A child was killed in an incident involving unexploded ordnance in Uruzgan province on Tuesday.

UNICEF, the United Nations children’s fund, calls for an end to violence against children in Afghanistan. Attacks and remnants of nearly four decades of war are taking a heavy toll on children.
