American teenager (13) becomes the first person ever to complete Tetris | Tech

A 13-year-old American boy has become the first person ever to get so far in Tetris that the game breaks, 34 years after the game’s release. He was able to beat Tetris in a whopping 38 minutes.

Tetris has no official finish line, but generally when the game freezes it is considered the end. Willis Gibson from the US state of Oklahoma played out ‘the game that never ends’ in this way. At level 157, the game froze and 13-year-old Willis Gibson became the first person to beat Nintendo Entertainment System’s iconic 1988 Tetris game.

Gibson was filming himself live playing and then crashing Tetris, which has never happened before. Gibson was able to beat the game after completing an impressive 1,511 lines in 38 minutes.

Tetris shouldn’t end in victory. Success is measured by the number of lines you clear after a defeat. However, Gibson set out to find out how far the game can take you. The teenager rushed through the levels and less than a minute before beating the game he said: “Oh my God. Please crash”.

When the game finally crashed and he realized he had beaten it, Gibson was so happy that he started hyperventilating and said, “I can’t feel my fingers anymore.” In an interview with ITZsharky1 on YouTube, Gibson said he wanted to dedicate the performance to his father, who passed away in December.

Gibson started playing Tetris when he was 11 years old and came third in an October competition. He also said that if anyone beats his record, he will immediately be ready to take back the crown.
