In the American city of Seattle, Washington, a 21-year-old student was killed during a violent argument between her mother and stepfather. When the young woman intervened and tried to defend her mother, her stepfather killed her with more than 100 stab wounds.
The facts date from Monday, August 7. Angelina Tran, a 21-year-old college student, woke up in the middle of the night after hearing shouts coming from the kitchen of her parents’ home. An argument between Angelina’s mother and stepfather had gotten out of hand. Angelina went to the kitchen and saw her 54-year-old stepfather beating her mother. The young woman tried to intervene, but in the end it was fatal.
Angelina’s mother was able to run away from her abusive husband with the help of her daughter, but Angelina herself was less fortunate. She was attacked by her stepfather, who beat her several times and dragged her on the ground. The man then took a knife from one of the kitchen drawers and stabbed her more than 100 times. Even after Angelina stopped moving, he continued to injure her, according to police.
Images from the surveillance cameras in the home would show how the man punches his wife at least fifteen times in the face before Angelina intervenes. In addition, he would have taken a few “pauses” between the stabbings, including to look for his wife – who was hiding in the house – and to change clothes because his clothes were soaked with blood.
Money matters
It was Angelina’s mother who was finally able to call emergency services. When emergency responders arrived on scene, they found the woman with bruises all over her face. Angelina’s stepfather was covered in blood and still holding the knife he had used to kill his stepdaughter.
The mother of the family was taken to hospital and her husband was immediately arrested. During the interrogation, the police learned that the couple had been together for 19 years, but had only married last year. The argument was said to have arisen over money matters. The 54-year-old perpetrator is now in pre-trial detention. He is charged with murder and attempted murder.
Angelina’s death is a great shock to those around her. The University of Washington – where Angelina studied – provides psychological assistance for all students, a spokesperson said.
