As many as one in eight people who become infected with the coronavirus suffer from long-term complaints or lung covid, according to a large-scale population survey in the Netherlands at the beginning of this month. American researchers discovered abnormalities in the immune system of these lung covid patients, such as a deficiency of the stress hormone cortisol. The study could represent a breakthrough in further research into possible treatments for the disease.
