The Indianapolis Colts will have to do without their rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson for the rest of the NFL season. As Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay announced on Wednesday, the 21-year-old will have to undergo shoulder surgery. Veteran Gardner Minshew takes over for him in the playmaker position.

“Anthony is a fighter”

“This will end his season. Anthony is a fighter and we know how difficult and disappointing this is for him and our team. We have obtained multiple medical reports and have concluded that this is the best course of action for his long-term health is,” said Irsay, who predicts “a promising future” for Richardson.

The Colts, who picked Richardson fourth in the 2023 draft, are second in their division (AFC South) after six games with a balanced record (3-3).
