American agent does not hesitate for a second and saves life of unconscious baby with rapid CPR | Abroad

In the American city of Atlanta, in the state of Georgia, a police officer has saved the life of a baby just four months old. The baby’s mother was completely upset when it turned out that her son, named Pierre, had stopped responding. The officer did not hesitate for a second and immediately started CPR on the child.

Atlanta Police Department (APD) Agent Robert Oden was alerted while on patrol when the car in front of him suddenly began to shine its lights and “began to honk hysterically,” the police department said in a statement. Oden decided to follow the car in case the driver needed help.

The vehicle stopped at a fire station a short distance away. The occupants then ran to the officer and panicked begged for help. Oden’s bodycam captured the entire incident. The images show how the mother of the baby approaches with her son in her arms. “He no longer responds, oh my god!” the woman yells in panic.

“Hero’s Work”

According to the statement from the APD, Oden did not feel a heartbeat with the baby, so he immediately started CPR and also notified emergency services. The bodycam footage shows the officer alternately using his fingers and thumb to give baby Pierre a heart massage. Oden also gives the boy mouth-to-mouth resuscitation several times.

The officer asks the bystanders to look for extra help in the fire station, but that turned out to be no longer necessary. After a resuscitation of about a minute and a half, you can see how the baby’s legs start to move again. Ambulances then arrived and took the baby to hospital for further care.

“Agents never know what to expect during their shift, they are just there and they act immediately. Agent Oden’s actions were swift, calm, caring and professional. This is another example of the heroic work that agents do every day. We couldn’t be more proud of him than we are now,” the statement said.
