Ambulance victim of aggression during intervention in Kuurne
On Saturday night, an ambulance had to arrive on the market square of Kuurne for a man from Harelbeke who was injured in a café quarrel. The victim had to be taken to hospital with a head injury for further treatment, but his partner was not allowed to ride in the ambulance. A couple who were friends with the victim, who was also heavily intoxicated, did not agree with the measure. The two dealt one of the paramedics several strong blows. He suffered a concussion and was unable to work for several days.
The suspects were arrested, but could not be questioned until this afternoon. Tonight, the two were too intoxicated to make statements. In the meantime, both suspects have been released pending further investigation.
Mayor Francis Benoit, who is also chairman of the Fluvia emergency zone and the VLAS police zone, takes the facts very seriously, according to a Facebook post (see below).
