The Verden labor court has dismissed the lawsuit brought by a former Amazon works council. The dismissal after two meetings with politicians during working hours remains. As an exempt works council member, the plaintiff would also have had to inform the employer about his appointments, said a spokesman for the labor court after the verdict was announced on Tuesday. In particular, he did not correctly state the travel costs. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
According to his own information, the works council member met with Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil and Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (both SPD). Amazon saw this as fraud regarding working hours and travel expenses and fired the works council member at the beginning of March 2023. The other members of the works council had agreed to the dismissal without notice. (dpa)
