Amazon returns via DHL also possible without a shipping box

As an online retailer, Amazon is not only popular with many users because of its wide range. The company also makes it easy to return goods. Here a change is announced that will make the return process even easier.

It can always happen that customers have to return ordered products. At Amazon, they usually have 30 days to do this and can even decide whether they want to return orders via UPS, DHL or Hermes. Amazon even offers free collection in certain cases. But what the retailer cannot do is pack the goods. But Amazon is planning a practical change for returns via DHL.

Amazon facilitates returns via DHL

When returning ordered products, the customer must ensure that not only all parts are complete. The product must also be packaged in such a way that it will not be damaged during shipping. As a rule, customers need a sufficiently large box or mailing bag. But they don’t always keep the outer packaging from Amazon, so when it comes to returns, the long search for suitable alternatives is often unavoidable.

However, for several years it has been possible to dispense with such outer packaging for returns via UPS. Amazon now wants to introduce the same procedure for deliveries via DHL. Like the magazine package da reports, customers can then simply drop off their returns at a DHL shop, which will take care of everything else on behalf of Amazon. In the shop, the returns are put in a paper bag and provided with the return label. The DHL label is printed out on site using a QR code that the customer received by email from Amazon when they ordered the return.

With the procedure mentioned, however, the returns are not picked up immediately by DHL, but collected for up to seven calendar days. The return process can therefore take a little longer than usual. In addition, it is not yet clear when Amazon will reimburse the money for the return shipment. So far, customers have sometimes received their share back as soon as the return has been handed in at the branch or the packing station and the label has been scanned. Whether Amazon will also do this with the new return option via DHL is still open.

Not all returns can be handed in unpacked in the parcel shop

At DHL and Deutsche Post, the procedure is called “Retoure Unpacked”. This emerges from an internal letter that is available in Paketda. According to the information, the service should be available from October 10th. The mailing bags and return boxes required for the offer will be delivered to the branches with immediate effect.

Customers can find out whether a return is eligible for the offer when they order the DHL return using the Amazon form. Here you will find the option “DHL delivery – no packaging or printer required”. It can be assumed that smaller articles in particular are entitled to this. On the other hand, customers will probably have to pack and return large and bulky goods in the traditional way.

High effort for parcel shops

With the new unpackaged service via DHL, Amazon makes the returns process much easier for its customers. However, the offer means a lot of work for the post offices. You must store and provide the individual packaging for each return and also print the label. This can certainly lead to longer waiting times, as it takes longer to process each customer.

However, Amazon is an important partner for DHL. The delivery service already enables the company to provide some special services such as same-day deliveries, late-evening deliveries or grocery delivery for Amazon Fresh. “Return unpackaged” is another offer in this list. It is unclear, however, what Amazon can cost.
