The online shop Amazon.com.be has opened its virtual doors. With the launch of the website, Belgians can now also become a member of Amazon Prime, the e-commerce giant announced.

With "Brands of Belgium" Amazon wants to bring local customers together with local companies. According to the press release, consumers can discover new, emerging and established local brands in a virtual shop window. Belgians can choose from thousands of local products in categories like Food & Drink, Fashion, Beauty, Grooming and more.

Amazon wants to reduce the use of plastic in its packaging and has switched to recyclable paper bags and cardboard envelopes, they say. The protective air cushions in the packaging have also been replaced with recyclable paper cushions.

In the online shop, customers can shop over 180 million products in 30 categories.
