Amazon is not responsible for misleading content on partner sites

The Internet shipping giant Amazon cannot be held responsible for problematic content on the pages of participants in its “affiliate program”. The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe ruled on Thursday that the prerequisites for liability were not met here.

Registered participants in the program can set links to products offered by Amazon on their own website. If such a purchase is made, they receive a commission. The links are called affiliate links. “Affiliate” is English and means partner.

A mattress manufacturer complained that such links can also be found in fake test reports and dubious product tips. He believes that Amazon should be responsible for this. In the specific case, it was about a questionable mattress ranking, in which the company’s mattress also appeared. (dpa)
