Amazon builds Belgium’s first delivery center in Antwerp | Inland

Web store Amazon is building its own delivery center for parcels in Belgium for the first time. The depot will be located in Antwerp and will provide more than fifty direct jobs. The American e-commerce giant announced this.

The delivery center will be located at the Blue Gate business park and should open by the end of this year. It is aimed at “the city center and the wider surroundings of Antwerp”. Parcels will arrive from Amazon’s sorting centers in France and Germany, among other places, and will then be sorted by address.

Amazon will not undertake the actual delivery. To this end, the group continues to work with its existing independent delivery partners, such as bpost, and new companies.

It does not disclose how much Amazon is investing in the center. The location provides “more than fifty” jobs: this concerns both management positions and sorting employees. In addition, more than 200 drivers working for local delivery companies will collect packages from the delivery center and deliver them to Amazon customers.

The company does not want to speculate about whether Amazon also wants to build such delivery centers elsewhere in Belgium, which are responsible for the “last mile”.
