“Died by something she could do best”

Disbelief and a lot of sadness at the sudden farewell of Jessy Dewildeman and her friend Wibe. They died on Saturday evening in an accident on the highway near Rome.

“She died because of what she did best, which was helping people,” said Jason Dewildeman, Jessy’s brother.

Jessy and Wibe are indeed on their way by taxi, when they ask the driver to stop. Another accident has just happened and the two twenty-somethings from Menen and Wevelgem want to help.

“That was Jessy. She was ready for everyone, Jessy wanted to help everyone,” says Eveline Derumeaux, Jessy’s mother.

“Trip was a gift”

But disaster strikes: a car speeding by at full speed hits them. A tragic ending for the two friends, loved in their neighbourhood.

“Jessy got that trip as a gift from a client she was going to clean with. She could choose where she wanted to go, but she absolutely wanted to go to Rome, visit the city of Rome.”

The accident also disturbed the Italian media this morning, because the driver continues to drive after the accident: the police can only pick him up yesterday afternoon.

“It’s a shame. The outcome might have been the same if he had stopped, but the respect is completely gone if you drive on.”
