Alveringem is the only West Flemish municipality that is not connected to BE-Alert

The BE-Alert project has now been in existence for almost six years. In the meantime, 63 of the 64 municipalities in our province are connected to the platform. In 2021, the counter was still at three.

“No added value”

Cities and municipalities that sign BE-Alert can notify anyone who is in the vicinity of an incident via text message. The city council of Alveringem, however, maintains its position and does not intend to step in. According to them, they see no added value in the platform and believe that it should be offered for free.

131,000 West Flemish people

In 2022, BE-Alert was deployed twenty times for emergencies and twelve times for vigilance such as storms or ice. At the moment, 131,000 West Flemish people, or a fifth of all households, are connected to BE-Alert. That is an increase of 10,000 addresses compared to 2021.
