In a wild game, Eintracht Braunschweig scored points against Fortuna Düsseldorf for the first time this season in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Second division promoted Eintracht Braunschweig did not win against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday evening (08/20/2022), but set an example. It was 2:2 (0:0) at the end of an exciting game. Robin Krauße (56th minute) and Anton Donkor (70th) scored the goals for Lower Saxony, Nicolas Gavory (61st) and Marcel Sobottka (71) for Düsseldorf.
The draw doesn’t really help either team. Braunschweig is still stuck in the bottom of the table, but at least scored the first goals and also got the first point of the season. Dusseldorf remains at least in the top third of the table for the time being.
With the worst second division start of all time as a burden – zero points, 0:9 goals after four matchdays – the Braunschweig team started the lively early phase quite appealingly. The “lions” were not impressed by a first chance through Düsseldorf’s Felix Klaus (1st).
Kastenmeier deflects the shot to the crossbar
Just one minute later, Brian Behrendt forced Fortuna goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier to make a save with a shot from 25 meters out. In the fourth minute, Kastenmeier repelled an 18-metre shot from Luc Ihorst and was lucky that no one from Braunschweig could get away with it. Shortly thereafter, Düsseldorf’s goalkeeper deflected a shot from Jan-Hendrik Marx onto the crossbar.
As a result, a balanced game developed, which was not necessarily to be noted that a supposed relegation candidate played against a potential promotion candidate. Although Düsseldorf became increasingly self-confident, they found it difficult to create real chances against the snappy “Lions”. An attempt by Fortune Dawid Kownacki (32′) from 17 meters narrowly went wide of the post, while Kastenmeier (42′) on the other side reacted strongly to a shot by Anthony Ujah.
Counterattack by Braunschweig brings first goal of the season
In the second round, the better class of the Fortunes seemed to prevail. First they nailed Braunschweig in their half. But after a blocked shot by Shinta Appelkamp, a BTSV counterattack developed, which Krauß completed successfully and thus scored Braunschweig’s first goal of the season.
Wild spectacle
Then things went wild. First of all, Braunschweig goalkeeper Jasmin Fejzić blocked a shot by Ao Tanaka from eight meters out, shortly afterwards Gavory equalized. But it had no effect on Braunschweig. In the 64th minute, Immanuël Pherai first hit the post, then Ihorst hit the top of the bar before Donkor scored six minutes later for the “Löwen” lead, which Sobottka immediately equalized.
Both teams were not satisfied with the draw and played for victory until the end. But the result changed despite the self-sacrificing commitment of both teams nothing more.
Concord now to Arminia, Fortuna against Jahn
For both teams, the second division game will continue next Friday (08/26/2022) at 6.30 p.m. Eintracht then travels to Arminia Bielefeld, Düsseldorf receives Jahn Regensburg.
