After the accident in the Amstelveen swimming pool De Meerkamp in which a diving instructor was killed on Sunday, one of the witnesses was hospitalized. The board of diving club Nemo announced this in a written response.
“It is true that on Sunday in our clubhouse a person became unwell and was taken to hospital. Fortunately, we can inform you that this person is well again.”
It is not known whether the victim became unwell from the explosion or from the tension surrounding the aftermath of the fatal incident.
About 40 people were in the pool at the time of the explosion. They saw how the victim was seriously injured by the enormous blow. Bystanders gave CPR to the man and he was taken to hospital by ambulance. Over there he died.
‘Sharing emotions’
The death of the instructor has deeply affected the club. “The devastation is great after Sunday’s fatal accident,” the board writes. A day after the accident, the club held a meeting for members “to share emotions and support each other.”
The club does not want to prejudge the question of how the accident could have happened. Like the municipality, Nemo refers to the investigation by the Labor Inspectorate. “We are awaiting the report of the labor inspectorate and do not want to prejudge it, also out of respect for the relatives of the diving instructor.”
It is now clear that the instructor was standing on the edge of the pool at the time of the explosion and holding the compressed air bottle in his hands. A spokesperson for the labor inspectorate previously informed NH Nieuws that such an investigation could take months.
