Unrest at Ajax, but that certainly also applies to the European opponent of Amsterdam’s Olympique Marseille. The French top club sees its coach Marcelino leave a day before the match. The Spanish coach was only at the helm of the French for seven games.
Marcelino is said to have drawn his conclusions after the threats from angry supporters against Olympique Marseille chairman Pablo Longoria. In addition to the trainer, the entire technical staff is also joining the current number three in France. Club icon Jean-Pierre Papin and former player Jacques Abardonado are now on the bench in the Johan Cruijff Arena on Thursday evening.
Things also got completely out of hand last Sunday after the 0-0 draw between Olympique Marseille and Toulouse. The Marseille ultras sought confrontation with the players afterwards. The fanatical French supporters also showed their dissatisfaction during the match. “Wet your shirt or leave,” came the voice from the stands in the Stade Vélodrome.

With two wins and three draws in the competition and the elimination by Panathinaikos in the preliminary round of the Champions League, Marcelino has made seven official appearances for Olympique Marseille. This makes him the shortest-serving trainer in the southern French city of this century.
It previously became clear that the Marseille board will not board a plane to Amsterdam, following the threats from supporters to them. Owner Frank McCourt has asked chairman Longoria and his management not to resign immediately and to think about their future during a period of reflection.
