The RMI warns for “intense thunderstorms or rain showers” with possible heavy wind gusts for Friday. It does not rule out that the current code yellow for Friday will be scaled up to orange.

The showers can be locally intense and accompanied by thunderstorms, possibly also with strong wind gusts and hail, says the RMI. Locally, 10 to 20 liters of precipitation can fall per square meter. In the course of the afternoon the showers move east and the weather improves in the west. The maximums fluctuate from 19 degrees at the sea to 28 degrees in Belgian Lorraine. The wind is weak to moderate.

The night from Thursday to Friday will start mainly dry, but in the course of the night thunderstorms will develop again south of Sambre en Maas. The minimums are between 10 and 15 degrees.

On Friday, new showers with thunderstorms or rain showers will soon reach our country from the French border. Locally there is a chance of strong wind gusts and a lot of precipitation. In some regions, during the most intense thunderstorms or rain showers, more than 40 liters of precipitation per square meter can fall in an hour, says the RMI. “If these predictions are confirmed, there is a very real chance that the warning will be scaled up to orange,” adds the Meteorological Institute.

The yellow code currently applies in Flanders and Brussels from 9 a.m. until late afternoon. Then it should become drier over the west with clear spells. The maximums will fluctuate on Friday from 16 degrees on the coast to 27 degrees in Belgian Lorraine.

Friday night the last showers will leave the country towards the Netherlands and Germany. Clear skies first appear, later low clouds appear. The minimums drop to values ​​between 7 and 13 degrees.
