Giermo B. (37) and Moreno B. (32) were sentenced on appeal to 30 years in prison for the murder of Derk Wiersum. The court also sentenced the accused to 30 years in prison. Wiersum was the lawyer of key witness Nabil B. in the Marengo trial, the case involving suspect Ridouan Taghi.
“The murder was professionally prepared, the men explored the living environment of Wiersum for weeks. They used stolen cars with false license plates. They also used telephone numbers in the preparation of the murder,” the court concluded.
Giërmo B. and Moreno B. are seen by the judiciary as the perpetrators of the murder. Derk Wiersum was shot dead in September 2019 in front of his house in Buitenveldert. He was the lawyer of star witness Nabil B. in the case against Ridouan Taghi.
DNA and traces of blood Wiersum
Both suspects deny involvement in the murder. “I did not kill Mr. Wiersum at all. I am not involved at all,” Moreno B. addressed the court in September 2020.
The Public Prosecution Service demanded life imprisonment on appeal. According to the Public Prosecution Service, there is enough reason for this given the evidence. For example, DNA of both Moreno B. and Giërmo B. was found in the getaway car used in the murder, a white Opel Combo. Blood traces of Wiersum were also found in the vehicle.
The shooter would also have had a strange walk that corresponds to that of Moreno B., which, according to the public prosecutor, seems to indicate that he was the shooter. However, that does not mean that the role of the driver, Giermo B., is less heavy than that of the shooter. According to the public prosecutor, there was close cooperation between the two and they also did the preliminary reconnaissance together.
