Also in Sierre, the bus disaster is far from being forgotten: “We are actually still in shock here” | Abroad

Today, March 13, 2022, it is exactly ten years ago that a Belgian bus collided head-on with a concrete wall of a safety niche in a tunnel in Sierre, Switzerland. On board were pupils from primary schools ‘t Stekske in Lommel and Sint-Lambertus in Heverlee, four supervisors and two drivers. Among the children, 22 were killed, six adults were also killed and 24 children were injured. The terrible accident happened on the way home at a quarter past nine in the evening, more than half an hour after the bus had left the mountain village of Saint-Luc where the children had been on a skiing holiday. The cause of the disaster remains a mystery to this day.
