Children from families that are in financial difficulty can receive a free school breakfast for longer in the municipality of Noordenveld. The scheme will be continued in 2024.
At the beginning of this year, Noordenveld started handing out breakfast bags to parents of primary school children who would otherwise go to school without breakfast. Since then, breakfast has been offered at school in secondary schools.
“More and more children in Noordenveld went to school without breakfast. At the request of the municipal council, we introduced a breakfast scheme as quickly as possible for all children who need it,” says councilor Kirsten Ipema.
“A few months later, the national government also introduced a school breakfast scheme. Parents from three schools in Noordenveld can make use of this. The other parents can contact the municipality and, fortunately, will also do so next year.”
Parents of primary school children in Noordenveld can sign up for the breakfast bags. These are distributed once a week by Welzijn in Noordenveld (WiN). The bags are filled with healthy breakfast products and are packed by students from De Esborg.
