Already record amount of sunshine hours in March | 1Limburg

The sun shone quite a bit in March: so much so that it is the sunniest March ever.

That’s what weatherman Thijs Zeelen tells at L1 Radio.

‘Never happened’
“We now have 221 hours of sunshine in central and northern Limburg and 216 hours of sunshine in the south, which has never happened before in March. That has become a record.”

It previous record comes from 2014: when the KNMI station in Haler measured 219 hours of sunshine. An average March has about 140 hours of sunshine.

More than summer months
More than 200 hours of sunshine is already higher on average during the summer months of June, July and August: “So that shows how extremely sunny it has been. We were able to generate a lot of solar energy this month,” says Zeelen.

groundwater
Due to the dry weather, the groundwater level in Limburg is dropping again: “That was normal at the beginning of this month, but various sandy soils are completely dry again. (…) That is a worrying development if there is not much water. should come, actually,” says Zeelen.

Weather cover
The warm weather will not last this week. For example, it will turn considerably from Tuesday: “It will be about twelve to thirteen degrees and it will be cloudy with periods of light rain and drizzle. That is disappointing compared to before.” It is also likely to freeze again next weekend. “That is not favorable for nature. About minus two to minus four degrees, and on the ground even lower,” concludes Zeelen.
