It remains to be seen how the bridges in the Zaanstreek hold up today in the heat. Problems arose yesterday due to the heat, at least at the Bernhard Bridge in Zaandam and the new temporary Zaan Bridge from Wormerveer to Wormer. It was put into use yesterday.
The temporary bridge had start-up problems and got stuck for a short time because the metal expanded due to the heat (see photo). It caused a traffic jam on the water. Yesterday some bridges were kept wet to prevent problems and that will also happen today, a municipal spokesperson said.
