Autosport news site according to three car manufacturers would be interested in joining the World Rally Championship.
Two factory teams, Toyota and Hyundai, are fully competing in the World Rally Championship this season.
Alpine, Skoda and the Stellantis Group, which owns the Alfa Romeo, Dodge and Citroën brands, among others, could join the World Series if the current guidelines are changed and Toyota and Hyundai are ready to move towards a more electric future.
According to Autosport, the manufacturers met with members of the International Motor Sports Federation FIA in connection with the World Rally Championship in Portugal.
Director of the Renault Group Luca De Meo revealed in February that the manufacturer wants all-electric cars for the World Rally Championship.
– I am interested, but it remains to be seen whether we will find the right conditions to participate in the World Cup. I want to do it with an electric car, which is not possible today, De Meo said at the time.
For this season, the World Rally Championship moved to hybrid cars, which was designed to increase the commitment of the manufacturers and to move the sport in a more sustainable direction.
Stellantis Group currently participates in individual rallies with its Opel Corsa E car in Germany.
The FIA plans to hold a meeting in the coming weeks on the future of the WRC.
