Are (dpa) – The Slovakian ski racer Petra Vlhova has won the penultimate giant slalom of the winter. The 26-year-old won in Are, Sweden, more than a second ahead of second-placed Italian Marta Bassino.
Third was the American Mikaela Shiffrin, who is still leading in the overall World Cup. Olympic champion Sara Hector dropped out of her home race in the second run but remains at the top of the giant slalom rankings ahead of the season finale in France next week. The only German starter, Marlene Schmotz, dropped out in the first round. There is still a slalom in Are on Saturday.
