Alpine skiing Val d’Isere: live ticker – giant slalom

09:37

Zan Kranjec (SLO)

Žan Kranjec is the next starter to tackle the slope. However, it soon becomes apparent that he will not intervene at the front. Kranjec doesn’t have any problems with his run, but he drives with the handbrake on and that makes itself felt in terms of time. With 1.87 seconds, he has to line up in last place.

09:36

Manuel Feller (AUT)

Manuel Feller was third in France last year. Can he do that again this winter? Shortly after the start he has to improve after falling back, but then Feller seems to find his way and drives the first difficult spots very cleanly. After a major mistake in the middle section, however, the deficit is there and he gets three tenths of a second. The ÖSV man brought the lower section clean again, but in the end there was a deficit of 0.45 seconds. Now he’ll have to wait and see what that’s enough for.

09:34

Marco Odermatt (SUI)

Shortly thereafter, Marco Odermatt shows what is really possible! The Swiss goes into the slope with a lot of confidence, sees everything in from the first goal and can also balance out small difficulties with confidence. With a time of 1:01:89 minutes, he confidently took the lead from the man with start number one.

09:32

Lucas Braathen (NOR)

It’s ready for the giant slalom in Val d’Isere. The Norwegian Lucas Braathen opens the competition on an icy and fast slope. The course in the first round is wide with around 27 meters between the gates in some places. Braathen struggles at once and after being late the Norwegian struggles to regain his run. There is a shake of the head at the finish. He seems to know it could be difficult with a top result.

09:25

Meillard lurks behind teammates

The Swiss Loïc Meillard has positioned himself behind his team-mate in the team. With starting numbers ten and 15, Gino Caviezel and Justin Murisier also have a decent starting position for the race. Semyel Bissig, Daniele Sette, Fadri Janutin, Thomas Tumler and Livio Simonet complete the Swiss team.

09:20

What is possible for an ÖSV team?

The ÖSV team travels to France with ambitions. You always have to watch out for Manuel Feller and with start number three he has gotten a good starting position for the first round. Marco Schwarz, who has starting number 19, would also like to attack again today after a result outside the top ten at the home World Cup. With Roland Leitinger, Stefan Brennsteiner, and Lukas Feurstein, three Austrians are returning to the World Cup after injuries. Raphael Haaser and Dominik Raschner complete the relatively large team from Austria.

09:14

Schmid leads the DSV team

The German team is led by Alexander Schmid, who should be aiming for a place in the top ten again in France. Next to him Anton Grammler, Fabian Gratz as well as Julian Rauchfuss and Linus Straßer are represented in today’s competition. The national coach Christian Schwaiger has set the goal for the final for Saturday.

09:06

Who else needs to be considered?

In addition to Odermatt, Zan Kranjec must also have big plans after being able to take second place in Sölden. Henrik Kristoffersen and his teammates also always have to be considered when it comes to podium finishes in alpine skiing.

09:00

Second giant slalom of the winter

In Val d’Isère, the men are going into the second giant slalom of the 2022/2023 winter season. The first competition in the discipline was a few weeks ago and took place in Sölden in October. It is correspondingly difficult to compare the respective level of performance of the athletes. However, one of the favorites is Marco Odermatt, who won the season opener in Sölden and also delivered strong performances last season. The round will be opened at 9:30 a.m. by the Norwegian Lucas Braathen.

Warm welcome

Hello and welcome to the men’s giant slalom from Val d’Isere! The live ticker starts in good time before the start of the race.
