Alpine skiing: top star announces good news

The ski racer Ragnhild Mowinckel is privately on cloud nine after the strenuous winter sports season. The Norwegian announced good news on Instagram.

Ragnhild Mowinckel is planning her wedding. “You are now tied to me for life,” wrote the alpinist under a post on which she looks happily at the camera with her partner Mathias Tangenes. The 30-year-old also proudly presented her engagement ring.

The post caused a storm of jubilation in the scene, and numerous active and former top stars congratulated the couple. The American Lindsey Vonn reported as well as Felix Neureuther. DSV athlete Kira Weidle wrote: “Welcome to the club!” The Swiss Wendy Holdener was also happy: “So nice to hear!!”

Ragnhild Mowinckel can look back on an extremely successful season, taking sixth place in the overall World Cup as the best Norwegian. The highlight was certainly her third place in the giant slalom at the Alpine World Ski Championships in Courchevel and Méribel – it was her second world championship medal after third place in the alpine combination in 2019.

Norwegian Mowinckel finally back on the road to success

Mowinckel had also won precious metal at the Winter Olympics. In 2018 she returned from PyeongChang with two silver medals in giant slalom and downhill.

After struggling with some injury worries between 2019 and 2021, her World Cup victory this season in the Super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo is also to be commended. Ragnhild Mowinckel was only the sixth Norwegian to ever win a World Cup race in her career.

In the Super-G she was ultimately able to defend third place in the classification in 2022/23. She was tenth in the downhill classification and ninth in the giant slalom.
