Alpine skiing: team competition canceled due to wind – Olympics

The adverse weather conditions at the Olympic site in Yanqing again caused a program change. First the start of the team competition on Saturday (02/19/2022) was brought forward, then it was postponed several times – until it was cancelled. Whether it will be made up for on Sunday, the last day of the games, is still open – we will keep you posted.

“There was no way to start the race under fair conditionsn”, said the German alpine boss Wolfgang Maier. He considers a possible event on Sunday to be at least controversial. “The enthusiasm among the teams is heading towards zero because everyone has had enough now”, he said given the difficult conditions on the mountain. A relocation would also be a major logistical challenge due to the continuation of the World Cup season.

Last chance for a medal DSV-Team

For the German Alpines it is the last chance for a medal. Unfortunate fourth places for Lena Dürr in the slalom and Kira Weidle in the downhill are the best results of the German alpine team in China so far. Lena Dürr, Emma Aicher, Kira Weidle, Julian Rauchfuss, Alexander Schmid and Linus Straßer have been nominated for Team D.

At the World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo a year ago, the Germans surprisingly took bronze in the team event. Dürr and Linus Straßer, who finished seventh in the slalom, were reserve drivers at the time. Now both should belong to the four regulars. Dürr is combative: “We’re all in good spirits, the mood is good. We have prepared very well and are now hot again.”
