In view of the high temperatures in Italian Bormio and the resulting dangerous slope conditions on the Stelvio, the racing jury decided on Thursday morning (December 30th, 2021) to cancel the planned second men’s Super-G “for safety reasons”.
Stelvio was hit by heavy rain
On Wednesday evening it had rained heavily in Bormio, and then it was frozen overnight. The Stelvio had therefore initially presented itself as an ice rink early on Thursday morning, which was ultimately affected by the high temperatures.
The next scheduled races in the new year are the slaloms in Zagreb, Croatia, on January 4th and 5th (women / men).
