    The top 30 are through

The first 30 of a total of 59 athletes have reached the finish line. We will continue to accompany the remaining giant slalom riders and let you know if there is anything to report!

  • 10:51

    Katharina Troupe (AUT)

Troop rides quite upright, so it’s not quite as aerodynamic. Technically she remains clean, chooses a balanced line and can keep building up the pace. At the finish she is a strong 14th!

  • 10:50

    Roberta Melesi (ITA)

Melesi chooses a fairly round line, but is a little too sensitive. She clearly loses on the steep slope, then tries to catch up with what can no longer be caught up. She has to wait for a second trip.

  • 10:48

    Simone Wild (SUI)

The Swiss twists her body in the transition to the steep slope, making a clear mistake in the process. The action seems to have awakened wild, then she runs strong. She will probably be there in the second round.

  • 10:47

    Asja Zenere (ITA)

The Italian shows a cheeky performance and always drives very directly. However, she is unable to build up a high pace and falls behind the top positions early on. At the finish she is at the back of the table, but she can be celebrated.

  • 10:45

    Lara Colturi (ALB)

The young driver stays close to the top positions, but then has problems in the transition to the steep slope. She never really finds her ideal line, even the ultimate conviction is missing. This is how she ranks at the end of the rankings.

  • 10:43

    Elisabeth Kappaurer (AUT)

Again and again Kappaurer remains unclean in his left swings and slips. Even in the lower part she can no longer make up for her mistakes from the steep slope and has to accept a clear deficit.

  • 10:42

    Camille Rast (SUI)

The Swiss races through the steep slope without any clear mistakes, but she lacks the final risk. In the end she is three seconds behind, too much for what should have been a solid ride!

  • 10:38

    Estelle Alphand (SWE)

At the top she is at the front, but then she makes a mistake on the steep slope because she lacks the pressure in the corners. She then no longer finds her way back into her ideal line and finds herself at the bottom of the rankings.

  • 10:37

    Julia Scheib (AUT)

Already in the upper part she gets on her skis after a small hit when turning left and is eliminated after just a few gates. Bitter for the Austrian!

  • 10:36

    Stephanie Brunner (AUT)

The injury-hit Austrian shows off her clean technique, but doesn’t really have a chance on the steep slope either. Although she doesn’t make any obvious mistakes, she still clearly loses. In the end she is 15th and seems frustrated at the finish.

  • 10:34

    Andrea Ellenberger (SUI)

The Swiss woman is doing well at the top, but has too many slipping phases on the steep slope. She gradually loses more and more time and can no longer find the accelerator pedal, even in the flatter part. She is ranked at the end of the rankings.

  • 10:33

    Maria Therese Tviberg (NOR)

The Norwegian twists her upper body in the transition to the steep slope and is clearly too late when she swings to the right. She can’t reach the next goal and is eliminated!

  • 10:31

    Katharina Liensberger (AUT)

The Austrian runs well at the top and creates a small corner in the transition to the steep slope. Then she shows herself to be aggressive, takes a lot of risks again and again and drives straight. At the finish she is still almost three seconds behind.

  • 10:30

    Michelle Gisin (SUI)

Gisin chooses a very soft line, has too long a path and clearly loses on the steep slope. Even down below, the technician can’t really make any time and finds herself in the middle of the rankings.

  • 10:27

    Wendy Holdener (SUI)

The Swiss woman can’t really capitalize on the break in preparation, has problems especially with the transition from the steep slope and keeps twisting her upper body. Holdener cannot be satisfied with her run.

  • 10:25

    Maryna Gasienica Daniel (POL)

The Pole has slight problems on the steep slope, the transition out of it doesn’t really work either, she’s always too far away from the gates. She ranks second to last and doesn’t seem to be really happy with that.

  • 10:22

    Valérie Grenier (CAN)

Valérie Grenier tries powerful swings with the crowbar, but keeps slipping. She always loses her line a little, but has a decent pace. In the end she ranks in the middle of the rankings.

  • 10:21

    Alice Robinson (NZL)

At the top, Robinson stays close to the gates, but then creates a small corner in the transition into the steep slope and loses speed and time. From then on she gradually loses more and more and finds herself in eleventh place.

  • 10:19

    Thea Louise Stjernesund (NOR)

A Wild Ride by Thea Louise Stjernesund. She often loses her balance on steep slopes and takes a lot of risks when making turns. But the variant doesn’t really do much for her; she crosses the finish line just ahead of Bucik.

  • 10:17

    Ana Bucik (SLO)

At the top, the Slovenian is immediately almost half a second behind, the piste is no longer very good. After a left swing, she slips seriously and almost falls forward. It takes her quite a long time to complete her turns and in the end she is two and a half seconds behind the lead.

  • 10:16

    Mina Fuerst Holtmann (NOR)

The Norwegian tends to be too early in the turns and almost falls on the steep slopes. The brief moment of shock seems to have woken her up, after which she makes a good run. But she can no longer attack from the front.

  • 10:14

    Franziska Gritsch (AUT)

The local hero is not so clearly behind the lead at the top and is running a clean race there. She builds a small corner in the steep slope and can then reach even further at the front. In the end she is seventh – she can be happy with that because the route is now noticeably easing.

  • 10:12

    Paula Moltzan (USA)

Can Moltzan spring a surprise? Probably not – she is already over a second behind at the top and is too focused on safety. She releases her skis too rarely and in the end she comes last by a clear margin.

  • 10:11

    Ragnhild Mowinckel (NOR)

The first Norwegian is on her way! She doesn’t really succeed in the transition to the steep slope, she lacks the final timing in the turns. On the flat it is too direct, so it clearly loses. It is over a second slower than Brignone.

  • 10:09

    Federica Brignone (ITA)

The Italian skis at the top and has a clear lead. Her appearance appears playful and makes quick swings. She doesn’t let up in the lower, flatter part and in the end she’s half a second ahead of Gut-Behrami. What an amazing ride!

  • 10:07

    Petra Vlhova (SVK)

Vlhová risks a lot, drives very directly and has a clear lead in the transition to the steep slope. Even afterwards it remains clean despite the short distances, but loses a little of its power. As a result, in the end she is only 13 hundredths behind the lead. Strong!

  • 10:05

    Marta Bassino (ITA)

Bassino is more sensitive and chooses a very round line. Even on the steep slope she is sometimes away from the gates and loses. She can no longer make up the gap and remains clearly behind the previous drivers.

  • 10:04

    Mikaela Shiffrin (USA)

Now the top favorite is on the slopes! As always, she drives safely through the demanding course and also has the best time in split time two. In the last part, where she can actually make good use of her outstanding technique, she loses something again. In the end she was even placed behind Gut-Behrami, 0.25 seconds behind, but everything was still possible in the second round.

  • 10:02

    Sara Hector (SWE)

What is Hector doing? She also makes a clean run at the top, but is just behind the Swiss. On the steep slope she chooses a slightly rounder line and walks it cleanly. She finished over two tenths ahead of Gut-Behrami. It’s a strong performance from the Swede!

  • 09:49

    Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI)

Gut-Behrami has opened the season! In the upper, slightly flatter part it delivers a clean ride. On the steep slope she starts to slip for a moment, but then finds her rhythm. It’s slightly too late on a left swing, but overall it probably makes a good run. It will soon become clear what your time is worth.

  • 09:45

    Favorite circle

In addition to Lara Gut-Behrami, the American Mikaela Shiffrin (start number 3) is probably the top favorite. The Swede Sara Hector (3) is also a force to be reckoned with, as she repeatedly put on furious performances last season. The two Italians Marta Bassino (4) and Federica Brignone (6) and the Slovakian Petra Vlhová (5) can also expect good chances.

  • 09:41

How does Gut-Behrami deal with starting number 1?

The Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami will open the alpine ski season today at 10 a.m. with start number 1. Last season she came second in the giant slalom World Cup and is still one of the favorites today. In addition to her, Wendy Holdener (16), Michelle Gisin (17), Andrea Ellenberger (20), Camille Rast (24), Simone Wild (28), Corine Suter (31) and Melanie Meillard (36) are also there for the Swiss.

  • 09:34

Can an ÖSV athlete attack from above?

The Austrian team was missing a top athlete in the giant slalom last year. Ricarda Haaser was the best placed in the Giant Slalom World Cup, she was 15th at the end of the season, but she is not there today. Franziska Gritsch (start number 9) and Katharina Liensberger (18) could be promising, as are Stephanie Brunner (21), Julia Scheib (22), Elisabeth Kappaurer (25), Katharina Troupe (30), Michaela Heider (41), Katharina Huber (49), Elisa Mörzinger (54) and Nina Astner (57) were there for the ÖSV.

  • 09:33

    Aicher’s only German hope

For the DSV, Emma Aicher (start number 51) is the only athlete starting today. The 19-year-old is considered a great talent and came 21st in the giant slalom at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022. Today we will see whether she can take a step forward – but the high starting number probably doesn’t really help.
