Mikaela Shiffrin is preparing for the coming alpine skiing season. The American has now traveled to Europe as part of her preparation for the season. The start didn’t go completely smoothly.
Shiffrin kept her fans updated on Instagram. “Woke up this morning and had no idea where I was…bumped my face into the wall trying to get to the bathroom…still haven’t the slightest idea how to deal with the jet lag/the “I can really get a handle on the time difference,” said the 28-year-old.
However, things got better afterwards. “But skiing was fun today, so all in all a great day 1,” said Shiffrin, commenting on her start in Europe.
The American is the big superstar in alpine skiing. Shiffrin has already won the overall World Cup five times in her successful career – most recently last season.
At the Winter Olympics, the winter athlete won two gold medals (in the 2014 slalom and 2018 in the giant slalom) and once silver (2018 in the Alpine combined). In addition, Shiffrin was crowned world champion in alpine skiing seven times. She also reached a milestone during the last season.
Alpine skiing: Mikaela Shiffrin is the most successful ski racer in history
Shiffrin achieved the 88th World Cup victory in her career, making her the most successful ski racer in history. The 28-year-old surpassed the mark of the legendary Swede Ingemar Stenmark (86), which was considered unbreakable.
Shiffrin can expand this brand even further in the future. The coming Alpine skiing season begins on October 28th in Sölden (Austria), then things get down to business in the giant slalom. As usual, Shiffrin will be one of the big favorites. Until then, preparation for the season remains on the agenda.
