Alpine skiing live: St. Moritz downhill (women) in the live ticker | 12/09/2023 10:30 am

11:35

Christina Ager (AUT)

After a strong first training session, she is now getting started really quickly. After the first jump she is carried out a long way, but she is able to compensate well. However, further in the middle she has more problems and cannot continue her great start. That’s not enough for the top 20. It’s a shame that she couldn’t bring the strong training into the competition.

11:33

Delia Durrer (SUI)

And yet another Swiss woman who will get through well here. In the upper part she is a bit cautious, but the time is not far from the top! In the middle part it loses a bit, but it doesn’t slow down until the finish. 19th place for her and she seems happy with that.

11:31

Juliana Suter (SUI)

Suter is a second behind early on. The lines are somewhat defensive and mean over 2.5 seconds behind at the finish. This shouldn’t be anything to do with World Cup points.

11:29

Stefanie Fleckenstein (CAN)

Fleckenstein is doing well, but has a few problems with the smaller waves. She also has to correct her line a few times at the bottom and of course that costs money. Compared to the training, it was a good ride, but at the finish it was “only” enough for 25th place.

11:26

Nadia Delago (ITA)

Delago is moving fast, but he has to fight hard to avoid a fall. The run isn’t as clean as it could be and only puts them in second to last place.

11:25

Ariane Rädler (AUT)

Rädler, on the other hand, doesn’t get to the ideal line so well and so loses time. Towards the finish, she accelerates again and arrives in just over a second.

11:23

Emma Aicher (GER)

So, now keep your fingers crossed for Emma Aicher. She gets off to a good start and sticks with it. She drives close to the gates and is very close to Shiffrin! Aicher is really strong here. She’s still only half a second behind Shiffrin! That’s actually sixth place at the finish! At the finish line, she first throws her arms up and then, exhausted, lets herself fall into the snow. Even Shiffrin has to take a breather.

11:19

Nicol Delago (ITA)

The next Italian starts quickly, but can’t keep it up. In the middle section she is already over a second behind, which can also be attributed to one or two cross-posts. 1.5 seconds behind means 17th place.

11:17

Marta Bassino (ITA)

Bassino loses a bit at the top, but she can corner better and that could help her. She drives her boot through aggressively and is able to catch up a bit. This could still be tight for Weidle. She is a hundredth behind the German at the finish! Bassino is really happy with the trip.

11:15

Laura Pirovano (ITA)

Pirovano is already struggling high up and is not really offensive. Her ride isn’t bad, but it seems a bit restless and initially puts her in 18th place. She’s not entirely happy with that.

11:11

Laura Gauche (FRA)

The Frenchwoman can make up some time thanks to her good cornering skills, but that’s not enough to keep the gap over a second in check. Gauche also cannot provide the pace that would be necessary for a good placement.

11:11

Cornelia Hütter (AUT)

Yesterday’s second jumper has to fight a bit for her balance on the first jump. This puts them a little behind at first, but they manage to maintain it and don’t lose much. But she’s really fast down there and misses the podium by a few hundredths! That was a really great ride from Hütter.

11:09

Michelle Gisin (SUI)

Maybe she can change that? It doesn’t quite look like it. There is a few dusty spots in the middle section and that takes time. Even further down she doesn’t quite get up to speed, but she can still do quite well in the gliding section below. This pushes Weidle back one place.

11:07

Joana Hählen (SUI)

Hählen is the next Swiss woman on the slopes and is doing quite well at first. Nevertheless, she is over a second behind and cannot make up the time until the finish. She reached the finish line in 15th place, shaking her head. Things are not going as planned for Switzerland so far.

11:03

Corinne Suter (SUI)

The Swiss’ next hope is on the way and is starting aggressively. At first she is only just behind the best time and loses very little time. The middle part looked good, but a few imperfections resulted in seven tenths behind at the finish. She also ends up behind Weidle!

11:01

Ilka Stuhec (SLO)

The Slovenian starts very quickly, but then almost gets lost and loses some time. Stylistically it’s nice to look at, but it doesn’t add any pace. Mistakes in the crucial areas ensure that she finishes in 14th place. She is not satisfied with that.

10:59

Ragnhild Mowinckel (NOR)

The Norwegian continually loses time in the upper half of the run. She also doesn’t do it quite as aggressively as other athletes. That’s not a bad trip by any means, but the many little things add up and initially lead her to 13th place. By the way, Kira Weidle is still in sixth place.

10:56

Ester Ledecka (CZE)

Ledecka also doesn’t come close to Shiffrin’s top time. You can tell that she’s not quite in the competitive rhythm yet. The finish is 1.5 minutes to the top.

10:54

Jasmine Flury (SUI)

After this fast journey, Flury is traveling a little slower. In the middle section she can’t make up any time despite a good, calm driving style. She even continues to lose and can’t do anything better until the finish. That’s eleventh place. She won’t be happy with that.

10:52

Sofia Goggia (ITA)

Can the Italian knock Shiffrin out of first place? At the top she is just slightly faster and is in close contact with the goals. At one point she slightly loses her skis and loses a tiny bit of time. But that’s nothing that a Sofia Goggia couldn’t catch up on. There are 22 hundredths before the goal. She gives it her all and barely manages to push Shiffrin away! She puts her hand over her mouth while Goggia has to take a breath in the finish area after this run.

10:50

Mirjam Puchner (AUT)

Puchner is faster at the top than the best time, but loses some time due to her cheeky but somewhat wild ride. But within a few goals, Puchner actually loses too much time. In the gliding sections before the finish, she was able to make up enough time to move into third place behind Shiffrin and Brignone.

10:48

Kira Weidle (GER)

Can Weidle make her run from yesterday forget today? After the start she is just a little slower than Shiffrin and goes close to the gates. There’s a little bit of dust in the middle section, but you can see that she’s giving it her all. She can even make up some time, but at the finish she is fourth. That was significantly better than yesterday, but Weidle doesn’t seem really satisfied at the finish.

10:45

Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI)

Gut-Behrami doesn’t get away as quickly as Shiffrin, who is still leading. She is technically strong in the middle section and is making up some time. On the way to the finish she would have to be really, really fast to pull off anything here. But that doesn’t work and is only enough for fifth place.

10:43

Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (NOR)

The Norwegian takes the waves well in the upper part, but still loses a lot of time. She drives close to the ideal line, but can’t really keep up the pace. Shortly before the finish slope she was able to catch up a bit, but then finished fifth.

10:41

Priska Nufer (SUI)

The first Swiss woman is on the move and of course gets the audience in the mood. In the upper part she doesn’t really come close to Shiffrin’s time and drives a little less aggressively. At times she is already over a second behind and can’t do much about it until the finish.

10:39

Isabella Wright (USA)

Wright has a bit of trouble with her lines and doesn’t really match the pace her colleagues set. At the finish she is fourth.

10:36

Mikaela Shiffrin (USA)

Shiffrin fires off the top and stays crouched for a long time. After the Berthod edge she stands up very briefly. In the middle part it is a little worn out, but that doesn’t bother a Shiffrin. Shortly before the finish she loses a little bit of time because she has to correct the line a little. But that doesn’t detract from our lead at the finish.

10:34

Stephanie Venier (AUT)

The Austrian is now also on the move for a dream bet. She starts off just as quickly as Brignone and chooses a slightly different line. But that doesn’t matter because it’s just as fast. As she progresses, she loses a little bit of time and can’t do much good on the finish slope. With almost half a second behind, Venier is not really satisfied.

10:32

Federica Brignone (ITA)

And with that the first starter is on her way. Brignone starts her run with great speed and jumps very far on the first jump. She really accelerates and looks for a tight line. Everything looks very harmonious here. On the finish slope you just have to let it slide. Brignone sets a first benchmark time of 1:29 minutes.

10:24

The favorites

There’s probably no need to argue that Sofia Goggia is the clear favorite here. She confidently won the Downhill World Cup last year. Likewise the Super G yesterday. But Ilka Stuhec and Corinne Suter should also have good chances. In the current form, Lara Gut-Behrami will also want to have a say. We are definitely very excited!

10:19

The Swiss squad

Switzerland is also well represented again. From a Swiss perspective, Lara Gut-Behrami (7) and Corinne Suter (15) certainly have the highest hopes of a place at the top. By the way, we will see almost all athletes within the first 30 starters.

10:14

Austria with good chances

The Austrians can be found across the entire start list. Cornelia Hütter (18) will have a lot of tailwind after her second place yesterday. Let’s see what placement it is enough for today. Mirjam Puchner will also have a good chance of finishing near the front of the field. Nina Ortlieb would certainly have had that too if she hadn’t broken her tibia and fibula while driving in for the Super G yesterday. Get well soon!

10:09

The German prospects

Today the DSV is again at the start with Kira Weidle (8), Emma Aicher (23) and Katrin Hirtl-Stanggassinger (51). After Weidle wasn’t at all satisfied with her run in the Super G yesterday and only finished 26th in the end, she’s of course focusing on attack today. After being eliminated yesterday, Emma Aicher’s main goal is to reach the finish line. But then as far forward as possible. A place in the points should actually be possible if you drive well. With start number 51, Katrin Hirtl-Stanggassinger will be one of the last to hit the slopes. We can’t expect a result in the top 30 for her, but of course we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

10:00
