12:18
Welcome back!
The second round of the giant slalom in Kransjska Gora will start soon. The 30 best runners of the first round will determine the winner among themselves. At 12:30 p.m. the Austrian Nina Astner will start!
10:55
The first round is over!
The first run of the women’s giant slalom is over! None of the big names are enthroned at the top, but the Canadian Valerie Grenier. Just behind her are the world elite, led by Lara Gut-Behrami and Federica Brignone. The second round promises a lot of excitement. It will start at 12:30 p.m.!
10:53
Priska Nufer (SUI) & Lena Dürr (GER)
The German-speaking duo graduates. For Priska Nufer it is enough for place 56 and therefore not for the second run, slalom specialist Lena Dürr is actually doing very well and on course for the second run, but then retires unluckily.
10:42
Vanessa Kasper (SUI) & Nina Astner (AUT)
While Vanessa Kasper from Switzerland does not get past 41st place, Nina Astner can actually still hope. The Austrian is on the 30th place and now has to hope that no other runner is faster.
10:35
Julia Scheib (AUT), Vivianne Harri (SUI) & Elisabeth Kappaurer (AUT)
This trio is also not included in the second round. While Julia Scheib retires and Vivianne Härri ends up in last place, Elisabeth Kappaurer can still finish in 35th place, but of course she will also have to watch the second race.
10:29
Elisa Mörzinger (AUT) & Jessica Hilzinger (GER)
Having started the race with start number 33, Elisa Mörzinger already missed the second race directly, because she only ended up in 31st place. Jessica Hilzinger is only doing a little better than the Austrian. With the current place 30, the DSV starter only has theoretical chances for the second round.
10:24
The best runners have finished!
The top 30 are now down. Accordingly, there shouldn’t be much to do at the top. Of course, we will get back to you immediately if there are any interesting developments!
10:23
Nina O’Brien (USA)
The American caused the first failure of the day. In the middle part she slips away after a mistake on the inner ski and is eliminated.
10:20
Catherine Huber (AUT)
It’s just not the day of the Austrians. Katharina Huber is not doing well in the race either. In the end, the ÖSV starter even takes over the red lantern, more than three seconds behind.
10:19
Simone Wild (SUI)
Wild doesn’t balance the bumps well and takes a few hits. Of course, this costs a lot of time and so it is only enough for the Swiss to place 27.
10:17
Franziska Gritsch (AUT)
In the slalom during the week, Gritsch was able to deliver properly, but the giant slalom doesn’t go quite so well. In the final part, the Austrian loses a little too much time and has to be content with position 18.
10:16
Stephanie Bruner (AUT)
She was ailing for a long time, but Brunner is slowly getting fitter again and can at least prove himself a little. However, she is not satisfied with rank 18.
10:15
Alice Robinson (NZL)
However, this is now taken over by Alice Robinson, who drives a little too wildly and unevenly. Not much is possible on the softening snow.
10:13
Andrea Ellenberger (SUI)
The tips that Lara Gut-Behrami will have sparked up do not quite work. Especially in the final part, the Swiss loses a lot of time and only ranks 22nd.
10:12
Mina Fuerst Holtmann (NOR)
Fuerst Holtmann is now the best Norwegian of the first round! After problems in the middle section, the Scandinavian is able to hold the gap solidly and ends up in 13th place.
10:11
Camille Rast (SUI)
Camille Rast moved up one place. Like many other runners, the Swiss loses a lot of time in the final part and falls back to 17th place.
10:07
Maria Therese Tviberg (NOR)
The next Norwegian with problems! Tviberg falls further and further behind with every split time and ends up not getting higher than 18th place.
10:06
Ana Bucik (SLO)
Big cheers from the home crowd! The local hero drives very well, especially in the second half of the track, and can still rank in the top ten!
10:04
Ricarda Haaser (AUT)
Actually a good start from Ricarda Haaser, who starts boldly but then makes a mistake. This mistake costs a lot of time and so the Austrian falls far behind in the end.
10:02 a.m
Wendy Holdener (SUI)
What’s up for Wendy Holdener? The Swiss is at least brave, but not on the optimal line. The slalom specialist lines up only on the 15th.
10:01 a.m
Ramona Siebenhofer (AUT)
Ramona Siebenhofer, who seems to have lost his self-confidence, also looks disappointed. The Austrian is far too cautious on the road and ends up far behind in the field.
09:58
Thea Louise Stjernesund (NOR)
Very uneven beginning of the Norwegian, who starts to slip too much in the upper part and loses a lot of time. It’s not enough to really keep up with the competition.
09:57
Maryna Gasienica Daniel (POL)
Good performance by the Pole, who remains less than a second behind and thus ends up in the top ten. She still has to correct one or two unnecessary mistakes before she can go even further.
09:54
Michelle Gisin (SUI)
The same applies to Michelle Gisin, who consistently drives around tenth place and ends up in exactly this tenth place.
09:54
Paula Moltzan (USA)
Paula Moltzan cannot get close to her colleague from the neighboring country. The American drives solid, but nothing more and joins the tenth.
09:50
Valerie Grenier (CAN)
That’s a surprise! Grenier takes the lead! The Canadian went on the offensive right from the start and was rewarded for her courage. Strong performance by the North American!
09:50
Catherine Troupe (AUT)
Things are going even worse for Katharina Truppe. The ÖSV starter slips too much on the gates and doesn’t trust the enormous edge pressure that is needed. For the Austrian it goes all the way to the back.
09:48
Catherine Liensberger (AUT)
Not a good performance from Katharina Liensberger either. The Austrian drives very unevenly and joins at the end of the field.
09:46
Ragnhild Mowinckel (NOR)
Ragnhild Mowinckel, however, never really finds her rhythm here and accordingly does not look quite as happy at the finish. Only ninth place for the Norwegian.
09:45
Coralie Frasse Sombet (FRA)
Against the lower section of the track from Lara Gut-Behrami all drivers are apparently powerless. France’s Frasse Sombet also loses a lot of time there and only finishes seventh.
09:42
Federica Brignone (ITA)
And now Federica Brignone drives into the middle of the leading group! The Italian shows a really strong run and places herself in second place. Great performance!
09:41
Sara Hector (SWE)
Sara Hector also loses a lot of time in the final part. Accordingly, the Swede only has to be satisfied with the five. However, the field is still very close together, which already promises an exciting second round.
09:39
Marta Bassino (ITA)
This winter, Bassino is the measure of all things in giant slalom. Especially in the second section, the Italian shows an almost perfect ride, but in the lower section she loses more than half a second and is only enough for second place for the time being.
09:36
Petra Vlhova (SVK)
The slalom specialist has yet to record a win this season and is therefore also attacking. At the finish, after a good run, she is only just behind her long-term competitor Shiffrin in third place.
09:36
Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI)
But what a performance by Lara Gut-Behrami! The Swiss finds her way into the race well and is therefore confident. The Swiss is rewarded with a comfortable lead!
09:33
Mikaela Shiffrin (USA)
And the first direction is immediately clear, because with Mikaela Shiffrin comes the driver in the strongest form. The American proves that again here and is seven tenths ahead of her competitor. Very strong performance by Shiffrin!
09:31
Tessa Worley (FRA)
Tessa Worley kicks things off! The French runs well but doesn’t take the last risk. The next runners show what the time will be worth in the end.
09:29
No points for Germany yet
Things are even worse for the DSV starters. While you can get involved in slalom, this is not the case at all in giant slalom. The German team has not collected a single World Cup point in this discipline
09:08
The ÖSV is missing at the top
n the technical disciplines, the Austrians are not yet good enough for the really big hit this winter. This is also the case in giant slalom, where no ÖSV starter is among the top ten of the World Cup. Katharina Liensberger and Ricarda Haaser collected the most points.
08:52
Can Gut-Behrami attack again?
The giant slalom winter started very successfully for Lara Gut-Behrami in November. The Swiss won the first race in Killington. Since then, Marta Bassino and Mikaela Shiffrin have outstripped her in the World Cup, but the Swiss could catapult herself back up the field with a win today. For Switzerland, the hopes rest mainly on this, because the second best Swiss this winter, Wendy Holdener, is more at home in slalom.
Warm welcome!
Good morning and hello to the women’s giant slalom from Kranjska Gora! Here the female skiers hit the slopes from 9:30 a.m.!
