Five Austrians
Austria sends the defending champion into the race. Vincent Kriechmayr (start number 6) enjoys a personal right to start, which is why the ÖSV is allowed to enter the competition with five drivers. The Upper Austrian has won three downhill runs this World Cup winter. Otmar Striedinger (5) is ahead of him. Daniel Hemetsberger (7) will be the third Austrian in a row to compete. And he was already on the podium this year (Lake Louise). Then we have Marco Schwarz (21), Vice World Champion in the combination, and Stefan Babinsky (35).

German quartet
Four athletes are at the start in the colors of the German Ski Association. The reigning German champion Romed Baumann (start number 4) will start the race. We are eagerly awaiting the appearance of Thomas Dreßen (16), who has been plagued by injury for a long time. Of course, the winner of five World Cup downhill runs cannot be in top form. It’s been three years since the last win. It is followed by Josef Ferstl (17), whose form does not exactly indicate the really great deeds. From a German point of view, Andreas Sander (27) completes the game. The vice world champion from 2021 had the best results in the ranks of the DSV this winter, but did so more in the Super G – also on Thursday when he finished ninth in the World Cup.

L’Eclipse in Courchevel
Today the men are looking for their new world champion in the downhill, which is considered the supreme discipline. For this purpose, 45 athletes from 17 nations set out on the L’Éclipse slope in Courchevel. A 3,100 meter long competition course awaits you here. From the start at 2,235 meters it goes down 945 meters to the finish. The course set by FIS race director Hannes Trinkl shows the way. The 55-year-old Austrian, downhill world champion from 2001, scored 40 goals.
